President’s Message
We are the Financial Advisors Association of Canada.
Our brand name, Advocis, stands for what our members do best Advice and Advocacy. And our slogan, Listening First, underscores our commitment to professionalism. Advocis represents its member financial advisors with all levels of government, regulators, and industry always with the intention of putting the interests of consumers first.
I am proud of the good things happening in the North Central Saskatchewan Chapter of Advocis. Two things we are especially good at are raising funds for worthy causes and providing continuing education for our members.
The 300 members of our chapter donate time and money to support several excellent causes. Every June, we donate the proceeds of our annual golf tournament to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. When we hold our annual Fall Education Day, we donate all surplus revenue to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). We participate in semi-annual blood donor clinics at Canadian Blood Services.
In November, we invite the public to join our members for our annual "poor persons' luncheon" of wieners and beans at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel. All proceeds of admission go to support Denny Carr's Secret Santa Fund.
The volunteer spirit of our local members was shining brightly in 2000 when we hosted the National Conference of the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (CAIFA). A few years earlier our members hosted the 1992 National Conference of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP). We look forward to hosting more great events.
As you may know, CAFP and CAIFA officially merged to form Advocis (The Financial Advisors Association of Canada) in 2003. Even before the merger was announced, our local financial planner CAFP and CAIFA members jointly hosted semi-annual Education Days. These events feature high calibre speakers who provide continuing education for members in the areas of estate planning, tax planning and investment management.
Our members have their professional Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or are taking courses to attain this necessary designation. Advocis also provides the training for, and grants, the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation, a sign of specialized knowledge in estate planning.
You can count on the North Central Saskatchewan Chapter of Advocis to keep up its good work in raising funds for worthy causes. We will continue to provide education opportunities that are essential for financial planners who want to provide professional service.
